Stakeholder Meeting held at Savana Signatures

A half day stakeholder meeting has just ended at the Conference Room of Savana Signatures with a renewed commitment by all stakeholders (3 partner schools, Chairpersons of Parent Teacher Associations of partner schools, Savelugu District Director of Education, Tamale Metropolitan Director of Education and Northern regional Director of Education).

The meeting was organised by Savana Signatures with the aim of briefing the stakeholders on the Activities and Timelines involved in the Integration of ICTs in Education Project (IIEP) funded by C4C

The Africa Peace Festival aims at bringing together people from diverse cultures and origins, education and religion to display their cultures and commitment to development through peace building.

Objectives of the Programme:

1. To provide as a safe, peaceful and joyful environment that allows for youth form different backgrounds to overcome their differences and unite for peace
2. To bring awareness and build capacity among youth on critical peace building issues with the objective of creating future peace educators
3. – To provide a forum for the youth to showcase their ideas in solving societal problems
4. – To showcase African rich culture
5. – To promote cultural tolerance and unity in diversity as a commitment to peaceful coexistence
6. – To engage political leaders, civil society, the media and representatives of the private sector with ideas of cultural tolerance and to encourage their commitment to peace, unity and development

SavSign Staff Undergoes Web Training

Web Development Training

Staff of Savana Signatures have undergone a two day web development training at the Savsign ICT Centre at Tamale. The training was to provide basic web designing and updating skill for the for staff of the organisation.

At the opening the, the Executive Director of Savana Signatures, Mr. John Stephen Agbenyo stated that Savana Signatures deems it a top priority to constantly build the capacity of its staff. He mentioned that ” It is only when our capacities are built that we can confidently build the capacities of others” he mentioned that “It is the only way the organization can achieve its objectives”. He also noted that the reconstruction of Savsign web site is being supported by the African Centre for Peace Building under its Web for Peace Project.

The Executive Director of the African Centre for Peace Building-AFCOPB who was the resource person for the training also re-echoed AFCOPB’s commitment at sharing knowledge with its partners. He said ‘the only way we can build a peaceful society is when we share knowledge to finding solutions to our problems”.

Participants were taken through:
1. Introduction to Dreamweaver, 2. Introduction to Web Designing using tables, 3. Development using CSS, PHP and HTML 4. Introduction to Graphical Tool to aid web designing 4. Managing a CMS Website 5. Transferring Files onto a Server using Core FTP and Cpanel

To aid more in-depth into the training, an online platform was developed on the SavSign website to provide further discussion on the content of the training.

20 Students Attending Seminar

20 senior high school students from Tamale Girls Senior High School have participated in a day’s seminar organised by Savana Signatures on the Role of the Female Teacher in Promoting Female participation in ICTs. 30 teachers, 20 teacher trainees from the Tamale college of Education and Bagabaga College of Education took part in the seminar.
Speakers at the forum were:
1. Patricia Fafa Formadi – Executive Director of Women and Development Project (WADEP)
2. Siobhan Duvigneau – Information Literacy Manager, British Library for Development Studies, Institute for Development Studies , Sussex University
3. John Stephen Agbenyo – Executive Director, Savana Signatures

St. Charles Senior High wins Inter Schools debate

St. Charles Senior High School are winners of the Inter School ICT4D Competition organised by Savana Signatures. They competed with Tamale Girls Senior High School, Pong Tamale Senior High School and Savelugu Senior High School. They took home a computer and its accessories and pendrives. The runner up, Tamale Girls Senior High School took away a printer and a set of pendrives.

Staff of Savana Signatures have undergone a half day training on organisational assessment, identifying impact of projects and monitoring and evaluation projects. The session was facilitated by Siobhan Duvigneau, the Information literacy Manager for the British Library for Development Studies, Institute for Development Studies.
