Savana Signatures

Health Marketing Activity- Total Family Health Organisation (TFHO)

Duration: 2021 – 2025

Background

Most Ghanaian communities are heavily controlled by social norms, practices and structures. Decisions,  including those on health, are taken on the foundation of these practices’ that communities hold in high esteem. These norms, practices and structures have over the years created barriers to access to family planning and other reproductive health services, particularly for women and adolescents, contributing to high cases of teenage pregnancy, unsafe abortion, STIs and HIV. This has also influenced low patronage of Sexual Reproductive Health services among women, adolescents and young people of reproductive age. The lack of access to adequate information and services further worsens and endanger the health of women and adolescents in communities.

The project is using a community-centered strategy to increase the availability of SRH information, family planning and other essential health commodities to the last mile to tackle unplanned pregnancies, unsafe abortion and STIs and HIV. With low uptake of family planning services and high cases of maternal and child mortalities in the Savannah Region, Savana Signatures with support from the Total Family Health Organisation (TFHO), is implementing this Health Marketing Activity in seven districts in the region to improve the situation.

The intervention is promoting the adoption of healthy behaviours among individuals by improving access, demand, and uptake of high impact health products related to family planning; maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition (MNCHN); water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); HIV/AIDS; and malaria prevention and treatment. Between 2021 and 2025, Savana Signatures is working to increase community social and behavior change, and demand generation on family planning and other essential health commodities, as well as increase community-based distribution and sales of family planning and other essential health commodities.
