Ho Poly Junior High School (JHS) in the Volta Region has won this year’s Volta Regional Inter-schools Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Quiz competition held in Ho.
Ho Poly JHS, represented by Ebenezer Afful, Isreal Ahua and Seyram Adadevoh scored a total of 31 points to beat nine (9) other schools in the Ho Municipality.
The Regional Model School Complex represented by Lilian Adevor, Micheal Anumah and Mawulorm Amadotor came second with 28 points while Nyive M/A JHS represented by Francis Dra-Zonyra, Bright Agbo and Bless Tsakpui placed third with 27 points.
The other participating schools were Ho-Kpodzi E.P ‘D’ JHS, Ho United M/A JHS, Ho Bankoe Central R.C JHS, Ho Bankoe E.P JHS, Deme-Fiave M/A JHS, Takla M/A JHS, and Klefe-Dome JHS all in the Ho Municipality.
The winning school received a trophy, textbooks, exercise books, pens, pencils and an ICT textbook while the first and second runner up schools received textbooks, exercise books, pens, pencils and an ICT textbook for their schools.
The winning school received a trophy and an ICT text book whereas all the other participating schools received an ICT text book. Each student from the three winning schools however went home with an ICT textbook, exercise books, pens and pencils.
The ICT Quiz competition is an initiative of Savana Signatures (Savsign) aimed to promote ICT education in the region. It is also to develop the skills, interest and ability of the youth to effectively use Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
The quiz competition falls under the Integration of ICT in Education project (IIEP), which is one of the projects , being implemented by Savsign in the Northern and Volta Regions of Ghana. The project sought to build the capacity of teachers, school administrators and pupils in the use of ICT tools in teaching, learning and managing school based data among other uses to improve their performances.
The quiz competition which saw ten (10) schools in the Municipality participating is part of Savsign’s efforts aimed among other things to facilitate the implementation of ICT in Education Policy. It was organized in collaboration with the Ho Municipal Education Office and held at the Ho Bankoe E.P Church (Elorm) Parish.
Congratulating the winning team, Mr. Richard Bonny, a project officer of Savana Signature urged the participating schools to make use of the knowledge acquired during the ICT quiz competition. He also introduced them to the SHE and SHE+ projects also being carried out by Savana Signatures in the Volta region.
