Sexual Health Education Programme Opens Discussions on SRHR in Ghana

Sexual Health Education Plus (SHE+) being implemented by Savana Signatures offers opportunity to young people to access free Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) information through their mobile phones.

Special mobile phones numbers (long codes) have been provided to enable young people to directly interact with health professionals in each of the regions the programme is being implemented in. This makes access to SRHR information and services private and convenient to young people.

SHE+ has over 76,000 subscribers who are accessing the platform and finding information on their SRHR needs-thanks to the funding support from Simavi.

The programme has contributed to increased demand for SRH services  and opened discussions on SRHR issues in Ghana. Hundreds of young people in Ghana are currently accessing SHE+ platform and interacting directly with health professionals on their SRH needs on daily basis. SHE+ radio campaign also soared up the number of young people accessing SRHR services and increased demand for and access to SRH services. The beneficiaries and health providers in the video below explain how.

SHE+ is an innovative use of ICT tools to promote and provide Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights information to young people in Ghana. The overall objective of SHE+ is to contribute to efforts geared towards achieving universal access to reproductive health.
