Savana Signatures

Integration of ICTs in Education

Year of Implementation: 2014

Background

Between 2014 and 2016, Savana Signatures implemented the Integration of ICT in Education Project (IIEP II) to enhance educational quality in Ghana’s Northern and Volta Regions. The project addressed critical gaps in digital literacy and teaching methodologies by introducing ICT tools to selected schools across four districts: Ho Metro, Tamale Metro, Sagnarigu District, and Savelugu-Nanton Municipality.

Strategy

The project employed a holistic approach across three key areas:

Infrastructure Development

    • We equipped all 15 schools with customized computer labs (10-11 workstations each), providing essential hardware including projectors, printers, and computers preloaded with offline curriculum materials.

Capacity Building
A structured training program developed digital skills for:

  • Teachers (ICT-enhanced pedagogy)
  • Staff (equipment maintenance)
  • Administrators (data management)
  • All educators (Microsoft Office proficiency)

Sustainability Measures
We established:

  • Peer learning networks for ongoing support
  • Model schools as digital education showcases
  • Strong partnerships with local education authorities

This multi-layered strategy ensured both immediate impact and long-term sustainability of ICT integration in the target schools.

Key Highlights

  • 15 schools fully equipped with modern ICT facilities
  • 22 projectors deployed across all locations
  • 570 education professionals trained
  • 100% technology integration achieved in target schools

This transformative initiative successfully modernized traditional classrooms, concluding in 2016 with all objectives met and exceeded. The foundations laid during this project continue to support digital education advancement in Ghana’s basic education system.
