ICT Pedagogy Training for Teachers

Background

Ghana’s Standards-Based Curriculum places strong emphasis on the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into teaching and learning to improve educational quality and prepare learners for a rapidly evolving digital world. However, many teachers, particularly in underserved communities, continue to face challenges in effectively integrating digital tools into classroom instruction due to limited training, low confidence in ICT use, and inadequate exposure to digital teaching methods.

To support the national agenda for digital education and strengthen teacher capacity in Northern Ghana, Savana Signatures initiated the ICT Pedagogy Training for Teachers in 2025. The training aimed to equip educators with practical digital skills and innovative teaching approaches that enhance learner engagement, improve lesson delivery, and promote interactive, learner-centered education.

Recognising the increasing influence of digital finance and the need for responsible digital literacy, Savana Signatures launched the Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Technology Training Project in 2025 with support from Aflatoun International. The initiative aimed to demystify cryptocurrency and blockchain technology while equipping facilitators, youth leaders, and learners with practical knowledge to navigate the rapidly evolving digital financial landscape safely and responsibly.

Strategy

The training adopted a hands-on and participatory learning approach that focused on building teachers’ confidence and practical competencies in using ICT tools within classroom settings.

Basic and High Schools’ teachers across the Sagnarigu Municipality participated in the workshop. Facilitators guided participants through practical sessions on integrating ICT into lesson planning, classroom instruction, learner assessment, and educational research.

Teachers explored simple and accessible ways to use laptops, projectors, mobile devices, and educational software to make lessons more engaging and interactive. Through group activities, participants redesigned sample lessons using digital tools, practiced digital assessment techniques, and learned how to identify and utilise credible online teaching resources to support classroom delivery.

The training also created opportunities for peer learning and reflection, allowing teachers to openly discuss challenges such as limited ICT confidence and inadequate digital exposure. Through collaborative discussions, participants identified strategies for overcoming these barriers and sustaining digital learning practices within their schools.

Key Highlights

The ICT Pedagogy Training strengthened the capacity of teachers to integrate digital tools and learner-centered teaching methods into classroom instruction, contributing to improved teaching quality and digital learning readiness within participating schools.

Participants gained experience in lesson digitisation, digital assessment methods, online research, and the use of educational technologies to support classroom engagement. The training also increased teachers’ confidence in using ICT tools and encouraged greater innovation in lesson delivery.

By promoting digital teaching skills and peer collaboration, the initiative contributed to advancing Ghana’s Standards-Based Curriculum goals while helping teachers create more interactive, inclusive, and technology-driven learning environments for students.

Through this intervention, Savana Signatures continues to support digital education transformation and strengthen teacher preparedness for 21st-century learning in Northern Ghana.

A major impact story of the training is the story of Madam Suraiya Amidu, a Catering teacher at Tamale Islamic Science Senior High School, who is transforming her teaching methods through the integration of ICT tools. Her students are already benefiting from more engaging, interactive, and practical learning experiences.
