Savana Signatures

Accelerating Social and Behaviour Change (ASBC) Activity

Duration: October 2021 – September 2026

Background

Advancing healthcare delivery to improve health outcomes among the people of Ghana has been at the heart of the Ghana Health  Service for years. The uptake of key social and behaviour change messages by target Ghanaians populations, however, remains inconsistent and particularly concerning, especially poor nutrition among children under five, and high maternal mortality.

The Unites States Agency for International Development (USAID) is within the next five years, funding the Health Promotions Division (HPD) of the Ghana Health Service to lead civil society, and the private sector to accelerate healthy norms and behaviours among Ghanaians and build the capacity of health promotion officers at the national, regional and district levels to effectively support communities to design, coordinate and implement social and behaviour change interventions in 17 districts in northern Ghana.

Under the USAID Accelerating Social and Behaviour Change Activity, 545 CHPS zones in the 17 districts in Northern, North East, Upper East and Upper West regions are being supported to increase and sustain the adoption of healthy behaviours and practices to improve the well-being of the people for better health outcomes.
The ASBC Activity is focused on seven health areas, namely malaria; sexual reproductive health; nutrition; family planning, emerging infection diseases; maternal and new born child health; and water, sanitation and hygiene.

Led by FHI360, the project is being implemented by a consortium of partners (Savana Signatures, Norsaac, Mullen Lowe and Ghana Community Radio Network) under the leadership and direction of the HPD and the Regional Health directorates.

Our Role

Savana Signatures as a consortium member, is implementing the ICT-based interventions in the ASBC activity under Result Area 2, which seeks to ensure that communities demand, identify and implement practical solutions to address barriers to healthy behaviours and practices.

  • We are supporting and strengthening the capacity of the Health Promotion (HP) Division at all levels, implementing partners and other NGOs and stakeholders identified to utilise digital and electronic platforms to communicate for health.
  • Savana Signatures is supporting HPD in developing and implementing a phased roll-out of Community Engagement for Health and Well-being (CE4HW) community activities in two of the 17 districts (Sagnarigu in the Northern Region and Mamprugu Moagduri in the North East Region)
