Edu Q-Card

Duration: 2019-2022

Partner: Edukans

Background

The EDU Q-card project is a tool designed to enhance the quality of education by actively engaging all stakeholders in school governance in a manner that delivers immediate results.

The EDU Q-card places schools at the heart of quality education, enabling a thorough assessment of the education provided and pinpointing areas for improvement. This tool evaluates educational quality across five key pillars: the Environment, the Learner, the Teacher, the School Manager, and the Community. Through a participatory approach, it identifies gaps through both self-assessments and external evaluations.

A collaborative dialogue among stakeholders helps to agree on assessment scores, followed by the development of actionable steps through a school improvement plan. Interventions are then implemented by various stakeholders, including the community, learners, teachers, school heads, and the Ghana Education Service (GES), to address identified issues and enhance educational quality.

Between 2019 and 2022, the EDU Q-card project was implemented in selected schools in the Kumbungu, Ho Central, and East districts, reaching a total of 28,400 pupils. The initiative led to significant improvements in the quality of education in participating schools, evidenced by enhancements in the learning environment, teaching practices, and school management, as assessed through the EDU Q-card.

The primary goal of the EDU Q-card was to systematically assess and improve key areas within schools that impact student learning and school effectiveness. The project focused on evaluating school infrastructure and facilities, enhancing student learning experiences, supporting teacher professional development, strengthening school management practices, and promoting parent and community involvement in school governance for educational outcomes.

At the end of the implementation, stakeholder engagement increased due to the collaborative efforts of teachers, school managers, learners, parents, and community members. The project also facilitated the identification of specific areas for improvement and the implementation of targeted interventions to address these needs.
