The objective is to promote uptake of healthy behaviours, services and products for measurable behaviour change across multiple technical areas in rural communities. These are:
Nutrition
Food/cooking demonstrations and talks on proper infant and child feeding of nutrient-rich complementary feeding based on locally available nutritious foods.
Malaria
Demonstrations on the proper use of Long-Lasting Insecticide Treated Net (LLIN), care, repair, maintenance, and home installation.
Reproductive Health
Demonstrations on condom usage/distribution using Total Family Health Organization’s (TFHO) Ebony brand condoms; free breast cancer screening and HIV/AIDS mass testing, YOLO TV series caravan screening in the community on the eve of the main event, SHE+ corner to counsel young people on SRHR issues.
WASH
Demonstrations on Tippy Tap construction for WASH in conjunction with USAID Enhancing WASH; introduction and demonstration of TFHO’s SATO PAN toilet facility and other latrine options; proper waste disposal and soak away construction.
Family Planning
Birth plan creation and implementation for facility-based delivery; promotion of secure birth control pills from TFHO, initiation and termination of FP services, as well as promoting household decision-making on FP (male involvement) as men are key for female uptake of services especially in Northern Ghana.
Maternal, Newborn and Child Health
SavSign TV Blood donation booths, Kpododo stand to register pregnant women and new beneficiaries, and demonstration on cord care using TFHO chlorhexidine gel, early initiation of breastfeeding and its exclusivity and proper positioning for breastfeeding.
Emerging Infectious Diseases
Vaccination (booths) for COVID-19, create participants’ awareness about other emerging infectious diseases such as Lassa fever.
The Health Fairs are being conducted jointly by the GHS-HPD, Savana Signatures and Norsaac. Sub national structures have been coordinated through a common coordinating platform including representatives from RHMTs, DHMTs, MMDAs, SDHMTs, SHEP and CHMCs. These steering committees at the district levels are overseeing the preparatory activities related to logistics, resource persons and coordinate across partners and community level functionaries and structures for the health fairs, with consortium partners supporting through district level officers.
