Savana Signatures

Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Training

Background

As emerging technologies continue to transform global financial systems and digital economies, there is a growing need for communities, particularly young people, to understand the opportunities and risks associated with cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. In Ghana, limited public knowledge about these technologies has contributed to widespread misinformation, vulnerability to fraudulent schemes, and unsafe digital financial practices.

Recognising the increasing influence of digital finance and the need for responsible digital literacy, Savana Signatures launched the Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Technology Training Project in 2025 with support from Aflatoun International. The initiative aimed to demystify cryptocurrency and blockchain technology while equipping facilitators, youth leaders, and learners with practical knowledge to navigate the rapidly evolving digital financial landscape safely and responsibly.

Strategy

The project adopted a Training of Trainers (ToT) approach to build a network of informed facilitators capable of cascading knowledge within their schools and communities. Through intensive workshops, selected facilitators, youth leaders, and community educators participated in learning sessions designed to simplify complex concepts surrounding cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

Participants explored the fundamentals of how blockchain systems operate, the broader applications of blockchain technology beyond cryptocurrency, and the potential opportunities and risks associated with digital finance. The training also focused heavily on digital safety, helping participants identify fraudulent schemes, understand safe financial practices, and appreciate the role of regulation in protecting users within digital financial ecosystems.

To strengthen understanding, participants engaged in hands-on activities including wallet setup simulations, blockchain verification exercises, and real-life scam awareness scenarios highlighting common vulnerabilities faced by young people online. The training encouraged critical thinking, responsible technology use, and informed decision-making around emerging financial technologies.

Key Highlights

The Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Technology Training Project strengthened digital financial literacy among facilitators, youth leaders, and learners, contributing to safer and more informed participation in emerging digital economies.

By the end of 2025, Junior High School learners in the Sagnarigu Municipality had gained foundational knowledge on cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and responsible digital finance. Participants improved their understanding of digital financial systems, online safety, and scam prevention, helping reduce vulnerability to misinformation and financial exploitation.

The initiative also built local capacity through the Training of Trainers model, enabling facilitators and community educators to continue sharing accurate and practical knowledge within their communities. Through this project, Savana Signatures reinforced its commitment to promoting responsible digital innovation, youth empowerment, and digital literacy in an increasingly technology-driven world.
